A weekly Clean Heights programme

Young people are part of the lesson, not just the audience.

At Shoe4Africa’s All4Running Centre, Clean Heights brings environmental learning, digital skills and games together in a continuing programme. Cynthia Jelagat leads the environmental learning; Roy Chumba leads practical technology activities. They connect new ideas to the questions and experiences children bring.

Projected prompts, short games and shared challenges invite children to choose answers, compare ideas and explain their thinking. The sessions are designed to build curiosity, participation and confidence using technology for learning, communication and everyday problem-solving.

A place to take part: the centre gives the programme a consistent youth-focused venue. Clean Heights brings the weekly lessons; Shoe4Africa’s facilities and wider achievements remain Shoe4Africa’s.

How the sessions work

See it. Play. Choose. Explain. Learn together.

Interactive projected lessons make ideas visible and give children a way to respond, compare answers and add their own thinking.

01

Start with a clear idea

Projected prompts and short games introduce questions about environmental care and useful technology.

02

Invite every response

Children choose answers on the projected board, compare ideas and make the activity interactive.

03

Make room for discussion

Facilitators invite children to explain their choices and connect the idea to everyday life.

The people leading the learning

Curiosity meets AI: learning to ask, check and think.

At Shoe4Africa’s All4Running Centre in Iten, Roy Chumba introduced older students to Google NotebookLM and led a conversation about using AI thoughtfully for schoolwork. The children gathered around a laptop, explored the tool together and brought many questions to the discussion.

Roy used the session to talk about both sides of AI: how it can help learners explore ideas and work with study materials, and why its responses still need checking. The practical message was simple: use AI to support your own reading and thinking, compare answers with trusted sources, and ask a teacher when something is unclear.

This was a shared introduction, not a claim of measured learning outcomes. The photographs show students taking part in the discussion.

Designed around children’s participation

Make room for every question and idea.

Our interactive format is grounded in a simple principle: children should have meaningful ways to take part. UNICEF’s guidance describes participation as relevant, informed, voluntary, safe, respectful and transparent. In practice, that means clear prompts, time to answer, and room for children to explain their choices.

Digital tools can make learning more engaging, but they work best as part of a child-centred approach, not as a substitute for facilitation, conversation or inclusion.
